ABOUT THE HOME

Cherry Wood, opened in 2021 and is Charis’s first home. Our home is for young people who have had adverse and traumatic life experiences including abuse and neglect who will benefit from a supportive, nurturing, and loving environment.

The home offers a safe, nurturing, and empowering community in which young people can develop, learn, and thrive. We want young people to be happy, enjoy a supportive network of relationships, to discover and realize their skills and talents and have high aspirations for their futures.
RANGE OF NEEDS Children who have had adverse and traumatic life experiences which may have negatively impacted their well-being and development and may manifest in a variety of ways, including mental health and conduct issues and risky behaviors. Children may also have associated learning difficulties and developmental disorders. Our team understands that as a result of their lived experiences, some of our children may express themselves in ways that require extra compassion, patience, and understanding and are trained and supported to help navigate these complex emotional dynamics.
Ethos and Approach Cherry Wood offers an integrated relationship-based therapeutic approach focusing on creating and maintaining authentic relationships with children that support their progress and development. We ensure each child is provided with care and support plans tailored to their individual needs. We aim to help children develop the skills needed to form healthy relationships and promote their overall emotional and psychological wellbeing. We place a focus on fun, learning, and relationships and view them as interconnected, for example, engaging in activities together helps build trusting relationships, and having fun and doing playful things together supports wellbeing and learning particularly when done consciously. We promote learning opportunities in all areas of young people's lives as well as actively support their education or employment.
It felt like a family home with a lovely atmosphere. I can see you have a great management team in place and great staff.
